Centerspace will recognize prior years of service for rehired team members in the following situation: If a former team member with more than one year of continuous service leaves employment and is rehired within 90 days of their termination date, their original hire date will be honored for seniority and benefits plan participation purposes. For qualifying team members whose employment was terminated due to a position elimination, reduction in workforce, or due to a property sale, rehire may take place within 180 days.

When a team member joins Centerspace as the result of an acquisition, Centerspace will recognize the team member’s original hire date with the acquired community when calculating tenure for purposes PTO accrual and years of service recognition. Benefits eligibility will be based on plan requirements, using the team member’s original hire date with the acquired community.

Benefit Eligibility

When prior service is recognized, the team member will retain tenure and eligibility for service awards. Team members rehired within 90 days of termination will retain eligibility for 401(k), if initial plan eligibility was met during previous employment and in accordance with plan details. If plan eligibility was met during previous employment, 401(k) vesting will use the recognized tenure date, which may be the original hire date due to bridge in service or recognized hire date with an acquired community. Centerspace does not credit PTO that would have been accrued or allocated during the break in service unless required by state or local law. In cases where PTO has been paid out upon termination or the team member forfeited PTO upon termination due to the 80-hour maximum payout, PTO will not be reinstated upon rehire.
